Funny, I hadn’t started writing and then I came across this article at Mashable The Top 10 Misconceptions About Mommy Bloggers by Jessica Smith @JessicaKnows on Twitter.

People always ask me this question when I go to Social Media events. I don’t think I’m a Mommy Blogger but maybe I’m wrong. I’m not sure what the definition really is. In actuality it doesn’t really matter. I’m not a person who likes to put people into boxes or to be classified myself (unless that it, is you want to call me things like Successful, Six Figure Mom, Millionaire, Independent, Entrepreneur, Working Mother

I’ve even had people say to me that I SHOULD be sure to classify myself as a Mommy Blogger because there is so much sponsorship money to be made in the mommy space. That bugs me. It’s contrary to my philosophy that you must first be who you really are. Follow your passion. Then align the money to your passion. I know many people don’t believe in this line of reasoning but I hear top personal branding people talk about this all the time. Most recently I heard Jay Berkowitz. Jay was an amazing speaker at Affiliate Summit. You can get a taste of his presentation by reviewing the twitter notes here.

I guess the main thing I really don’t like about being classified as a Mommy Blogger is that people automatically stop talking to me about anything that’s unrelated to Mommy stuff. Yep, I’m a mom for sure. But I was many other things before I had my daughter and I still am many other things. I love my daughter and being a mother is a big part of who I am but other than managing work-life balance, it’s not really a very big part of my career.

Why would someone automatically assume that I want to talk to them about their baby-related clients? I spent my 22 months with diapers. That was truly enough time for me.

Now, let me recant a moment. One of the main mantras for Six Figure Moms Club is Nonjudgment of others. I’m totally good with the choices that everyone else makes. So, if you want to spend your life working in the baby industry, that’s cool! What I’m taking exception to is stereotypes.

Six Figure Moms, what do you guys think?

What about you MommyBlogger? Thoughts?

Well, I don’t know if she makes Six Figures but I wouldn’t be surprised at all if she did. I met Kim Rowley last week at Affiliate Summit. She was a nominee for a 2009 Pinnacle Award for Affiliate of the Year. She’s a mom and an affiliate marketer and she sells something most of us women love…SHOES! Check out her website, Shoeaholics Anonymous. She sells great shoes and she’s also an affiliate for Zappos.com. I love Zappos and I was reminded why several times over the past week.

Check out the links above and read more about Kim at her oh-so-cool blog I Work in My Pajamas. Her blog has great information about how affiliate marketing works and also fits right in with our Six Figure Moms Club mantra, “Where Women Meet to Create Their Best Lives”. I’m hoping she’ll join us when our social network launches in the next few weeks. How about it Kim?

Next week, when you’re working on your vision boards at our January 22 event (or virtually from home), consider putting an affiliate marketing shoe selling strategy in one of your corners. Getting free shoes sure does sound like a nice fringe benefit to me!

Women consistently tell me, “I love your blog, but I just don’t think I fit as a Six Figure Mom”. They tell me they aren’t working right now or they don’t make six figure salaries. Ladies, regardless, YOU are the target. You and all other moms that have worked, want to work, or are working now. The thing you all have in common is that a professional career is ingrained in who you are… whether you work today, yesterday or tomorrow.

Whether you are at a career crossroads where you aren’t quite sure what you’ll be doing next, are choosing to stay home with your children, work a corporate job or own a business, you are all trying to balance a tremendous pressure. This blog is about personal leadership and finding options that work for you.

If you google the word cocooning, you’ll come up with definition coined by marketing goddess, Faith Popcorn . Well, Faith, can I borrow your word and add a second definition please? To me, Cocooning is a time for rebirth and reinvention and mothers do that whether it’s deliberate or not. How can we help it? So, take a deep breath. Yes, you’re taking a break. But stop and think for a moment. Maybe you wouldn’t be in this stage of self exploration if your children hadn’t come along to offer you the perfect excuse to exit your old life. Shouldn’t we be thanking our children for this forced sabbatical and also seeing them as the catalyst they are. You’re all Six Figure Moms in my eyes.

When he heard what I was writing about, my friend Dan recommend I interview Nan, “You’ve got to meet my friend, Nan. She’s fabulous. I love her writing and I love her stories. She gives great advice”. He’s never met Nan in person either! However, they’ve corresponded via email and he often comments that he feels so comfortable that he might just pay her a visit some day.

She lives in Whitefish, Montana, one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen. I spent a week there last year and never wanted to leave.

She’s a Six Figure Mom…in and out of the corporate world.

She left a lucrative career as a Vice President at QVC to follow her life dream.

And here’s the best one, she planned it all when she was in college. Really. She had the foresight at a very young age to see her dream clearly. She has always wanted to live in Montana but knew she had to have a successful career to finance her dream first. Amazing clarity at such a young age.

So, if you can’t tell. I’m recommending you look into Nan’s writings. In addition to her book, she publishes e-columns and is featured on more than 80 websites.
