Vacation Post #5: Working Mother, Sarah Palin. Can she rise above the Mommy Wars noise to debate the real issues?
Harvard Business Publications Blogs always have something great to read. I can’t do much more justice in describing this article other than to say to you, working moms, READ IT. The article eloquently delivers a discussion of the differences that still exist for working mothers in today’s modern world regardless of how much progress we’ve made since the days of the first feminist. Bottom line is, issues that would never be discussed if Sarah Palin was a male surface for her everyday of her political career. Whether you are a fan or not of this woman, as another mother, you have to empathize with the fact that she must fight this noise everyday spending her energy on it instead the real issues facing our world.
I wrote this post a few days ago and then noticed my friend, Saundra Pelletier, is also writing about the same issue at her blog. Not at all surprising since Saundra is the biggest women’s empowerment proponent I know in today’s times. You might want to visit Saundra’s blog for her views as well.
I encourage your comments here once you’ve read this article as I’m interested in your viewpoints on this topic. Sarah has a tough road….but we all know, all publicity is good publicity right?
And after all, we are on our way to the first female Vice President, one way or the other. A great day in history. I was having trouble with some of John McCain’s policy statements, it is quite possible that Sarah might be able to sway my vote. (Not that I’m willing to share my political views too broadly here but I am a small business owner…you can guess from there).

Angie – it scares me to think you could vote the McCain ticket… She’s a right-wing zealot, female or not… And trust me, every word out of her mouth is scripted. Let’s see if they let her do a debate…
Hey Angie – thanks for the ref to HBR – I am ashamed to think how long it has been since I’ve read that publication and it always inspires me. Also enjoyed reading a blog post on the NYT this morning – (Angry PTA mom, etc) and posted it to my Facebook page. There is no end to the material out there – so much anger and vitriol – so little time!
Hey Amy, I have lots of issues with the current political environment but knowing that I am an armchair advisor, I have to be careful. I don’t have solutions to offer up to fix what I consider a monumental mess. Bottom line is I believe that capitalism works and I don’t believe in large governments. That obviously makes me a Republican. You won’t know how I vote unless you’re in the poll booth with me but I can tell you I’ll vote for whomever I think will support putting more money back into the hands of business owners. I still believe that they will economically spur growth and healing in all areas of the world. (This is one of the foundations of why I choose to support Six Figure Moms. Look for a post on this in the next month.) I’ve yet to cast my vote for this election and my opinion is still being weighed. Thanks for your comment.
Hey Jeanne, It doesn’t matter how long it’s been since you’ve been to HBR. It only matters that you’ve found them again. They have SUCH great material. I never visit their site without leaving with inspiration. BTW, has your blog launched? I love reading your facebook page so can’t wait to read your blog too. Happy blogging!
So I know this isn’t supposed to be a political debate blog but one more then no more
I also believe in capitalism and putting money back into the hands of business. However, the Republican party has a long history of putting money primarily into the military industrial complex at the expense of other business (business of the common man if you will). Cronyism at its finest! Oh, and whatever happened to separation of church and state? I’ll be voting Obama if anyone cares
I agree that as a woman, she deserves credit regardless of politics! I’ve heard all of the complaints, accusations, etc. and researched many and most (on both sides were bogus spin!). I am an independent and was actually “pushed more to the right” by my disgust of the hypocrisy of so many “feminist” women. It saddens me to see so many women who will crucify other women simply because they have different views and beliefs! I for one think that the ability to have them regardless of their popularity is what makes our country great!
