I retired from my career to be a stay at home mom some 15 years ago and kept my skill set sharp by volunteering in my community. Upon returning to the work force I found my employer eager and willing to work around my mom schedule. Balance is important to me and I strive for that...but it can be done!

This is an interesting topic. I have 2 children myself. And, if it weren't for my being self employed and able to have a flexible schedule, my daughter would not be able to attend her ballet classes.

Even schools schedule many things during the work day now. I remember when parent/teacher conferences for my parents were at night, after work. We also had our school performances after hours.

I don't know how many parents do it without flexible work schedules. Allot of them must be using vacation time or personal time that should be reserved for other things like medical issues or actual vacations.
